Dismissed during parental leave in Denmark
If you live in Sweden and are dismissed from your job in Denmark while on parental leave, special rules may apply. Find out what happens to your parental benefits, who you need to notify and what to do if you are unemployed when your parental leave ends.
Parental benefits if you are dismissed
In Denmark, your employer cannot dismiss you because you are pregnant or on parental leave. You can, however, be dismissed for other reasons that are unrelated to your pregnancy or parental leave.
If your Danish employment ends while you are receiving parental benefits from Denmark, you can continue to receive the benefits as long as you meet the conditions. You must inform the Danish authority, Udbetaling Danmark, that your employment has ended.

If you are unemployed when your parental leave ends
If you are unemployed when your Danish parental leave ends, register with the Swedish Public Employment Service, Arbetsförmedlingen, on your first day of unemployment. This is also important for protecting your sickness benefit qualifying income, SGI, in Sweden.
If you are a member of a Danish unemployment insurance fund, a-kasse, when your employment ends, remain a member while you receive parental benefits from Denmark. When your parental leave ends, apply to join a Swedish a-kassa. Make sure there is no gap between your Danish and Swedish memberships, as this may affect your right to income-based unemployment benefits.
When you contact an unemployment insurance fund in Sweden or Denmark, ask to speak to an EU case handler.
